Gawain's Word is a segment in Between the Lions Seasons 1-Season 10.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

A Saturday Night Live-based Wayne's World spoof featuring two jousting knights on "horseback" charging at each other, one silver and one gold, each touting a speech balloon containing part of a word which then became their respective names, then demonstrating the word. For example, one skit featured "Sir D" (silver) and "Sir Ance" (gold). Then Gawain says, "Blend on, dudes!" when it's time to put the two halves together. When Sir D bumps into Sir Ance. their speech balloons meld together to form the word "dance". Then they react to the word, by dancing. The knights' steeds were actually hobby horses, an homage to the Pythons' use of similar "animals" in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Though the title of the segment is clearly a parody of the Saturday Night Live skit, the two knights in the segment speak more characteristically like Bill and Ted from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure than Wayne and Garth from Wayne's World. In some episodes, the opening shot of Gawain blowing a bugle is a clip of blowing it and then waving and then the shot of him waving is used at the end and in others, both the opening and closing shots are stills of him blowing the bugle.
