SCENE 2 Babs has written a continued version of the story, but it still seems to have come out awful. She reads it to the lions, where the chap sets up a trap for the monkeys to get his caps back, but the monkeys don't fall for it. Leona says it still has good monkeys and Cleo says it's a fine middle to the story, but it's missing an actual ending. Lionel says that the chap must be really angry at the monkeys for taking his caps, which gives Babs another great idea and tells them to go away so she can concentrate.

Babs is so frustrated that she throws her cap on the ground. Lionel asks Leona to stop copying him and Babs says that's just what monkeys do. Then three monkeys walk by, each saying "I must protest- monkeys don't do that", humorously coming off as hypocritical.

SCENE 4

(Cont'd)

Then Theo points out Bab's cap on the ground, as she has thrown it there, and then Babs gets another idea! In the story, the chap gets a great idea- he throws his cap down, making the monkeys do the same, resulting in the chap getting his caps back! Now the story has a beginning, a middle and an ending! But Leona is sad because now the monkeys don't have caps anymore, but she likes hat stories. Babs knows this book will be a hit.

  • Walter: So we're gonna get you one.
  • Leona: Well, I loved the monkeys. (chatters like a monkey)
  • Babs: That's very nice, but a story's got to be more than chattering monkeys, at least until it's made into a movie.
  • Pelican: Is that (sighs with delight) Babs Caplan, the author?
  • Click: Affirmative. That is Babs Caplan.
  • Pelican: Oh. Do you think she'd mind if I watched her write with my beak resting on her shoulder, just for an hour or two?
