The story is about a chap who sells caps, but one day wakes up from his nap to see that his caps have been stolen by a group of monkeys in the tree above him!
SCENE 1 (Cont'd) | Babs is angry that it's a terrible ending. However, Leona says that she liked the monkeys and imitates them. Cleo tells Babs it's a good beginning to the story, and Lionel asks if the chap could maybe get his caps back in the next part. Babs thinks that's a great idea and tells the lions to scatter so she can write the next part of the story. But she decides to move into another part of the library because "there's no light".

Leona says it still has good monkeys and Cleo says it's a fine middle to the story, but it's missing an actual ending. Lionel says that the chap must be really angry at the monkeys for taking his caps, which gives Babs another great idea and tells them to go away so she can concentrate.

Lionel and Leona come by and the latter is still imitating a monkey. All of a sudden, Babs yells offscreen and throws her cap in Lionel's face, and Lionel thinks that Babs is finally done with her story.
Insert | The Gray Hand puts the "ap" back in the word "caps".
SCENE 4 | Babs reads the lions the next part of the story, where the chap snaps and makes angry motions, but the monkeys just copy everything he does and he still doesn't get his caps! Babs is so frustrated that she throws her cap on the ground. Lionel asks Leona to stop copying him and Babs says that's just what monkeys do. Then three monkeys walk by, each saying "I must protest- monkeys don't do that", humorously coming off as hypocritical.
SCENE 4
(Cont'd) |
Then Theo points out Bab's cap on the ground, as she has thrown it there, and then Babs gets another idea! In the story, the chap gets a great idea- he throws his cap down, making the monkeys do the same, resulting in the chap getting his caps back! Now the story has a beginning, a middle and an ending! But Leona is sad because now the monkeys don't have caps anymore, but she likes hat stories. Babs knows this book will be a hit.
Insert | Busterfield now has the cap on and demands that somebody should take it off of him. However, there's nobody around, and he does thinks it looks good on him.
Designated Reader | Theo and Leona read "The Popcorn Popper". (Version 1) (EKA: Episode 04: Farmer Ken's Puzzle) |

- Walter: So we're gonna get you one.
- Leona: Well, I loved the monkeys. (chatters like a monkey)
- Babs: That's very nice, but a story's got to be more than chattering monkeys, at least until it's made into a movie.

- Click: Affirmative. That is Babs Caplan.
